30 kilometres south of Maastricht we find the lovely city of Liege, home of the Walloon squad Royal Standard de Liège. The tenfold Belgium champion will travel to Almere Challenge Event for the first time in 2019.
The club was founded in 1898 as ‘Standard Football Club’ and it only carries it’s current name since 1972. The Walloons had their greatest successes in the eighties. They won two national championships and a Supercup. The Belgian Cup was won and there also were great European successes with the final of UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup.
Most recent successes stem from 2008 with the tenth national championship being celebrated in the ensuing year. The national cup was won last year when the team won against Racing Genk in the dying seconds.
Almere City FC and its sponsors are proud to announce the arrival of this Belgian squad to Challenge Event 2019
