From the south of Sweden originates the new contestant of the 2019 Almere Challenge Event Helsingborgs IF. The club was founded in 1907 and won seven national championships and five national cups in its 112 years of existence.
The last team successes go back to 2011. During that year the Swedish football club won the double, the national championship and the cup. The double also resulted in an extra title: the Swedish Super Cup. Five years after the successful events the club relegated from the highest Swedish competition, Allsvenskan.
Last season Helsingborgs climbed back to the top with a promotion, by obtaining the championship in the Superettan. As the Swedish season starts in January, ‘Di Röe”s promotion is still fresh.
In European tournaments Helsingborgs IF once passed the group stage. In season ’07-’08 the red-blue formation ended on a respectful second spot in a group of five: Panionios (Greece), FK Austria Wien (Austria), FC Girondins de Bordeaux (France) and Galatasaray SK (Turkey). Dutch PSV Eindhoven eventually proved too strong in the next round on a 4-1 aggregate.
Helsingborgs IF brings ups and downs to the second-ever Almere Challenge Event. We welcome the Swedish contestant with open arms!
