The Almere Challenge Event will again take place on Almere City FC’s Yanmar Stadium. The stadium recently hit the news for the second year in a row. Last season, the stadium made headlines for being the first sports club to make a transition from artificial turf to natural grass. This year, media caught eye of the fact the the stadium will be rebuilt this Summer so it can host a maximum capacity of 4,501 guests. The upgrade is necessary to host the increasing visitor’s stream to the stadium grounds.
Executive Director John Bes: “It starts with having a vision and your own identity. The advantage of a young club is that you can determine your identity to a large extent. We therefore decided that a natural grass pitch belongs at the club we want to become. We have opted to rebuild and not to relocate as this small stadium is part of our history and inspires our thousands of visitors who have memories here.”
The artificial grass is now the main pitch for the Almere City Football Academy. In addition, a stand with a capacity of around 400 seats has been built.
